Derek Underwood MBE Christopher Martin-Jenkins Mike Brace OBE

Derek Underwood MBE - Patron
Club Patron Derek Underwood is one of England’s greatest cricketers. He qualified to join The Primary Club twice in one day, being dismissed first ball in each innings, playing for Kent against South Africa in 1965. “Deadly” Derek was one of the most accurate bowlers the game has known. In 86 test matches he took 297 wickets at an average of 25.83.

Derek works tirelessly for the Club, making speeches, receiving donations and handing out cheques for grants to schools and clubs for the visually impaired. When The Primary Club puts out a cricket team, Derek usually captains the side.

Christopher Martin-Jenkins
Doyen of English cricket writers and broadcasters, he is about to retire as Chief Cricket Correspondent of The Times, having previously occupied a similar position at The Daily Telegraph. He continues to commentate on Test Match Special and remains an associate editor of The Wisden Cricketer, both of whom are great supporters of the Club. His son, Robin, has been a member of the Sussex County Championship-winning teams of recent years.

Mike Brace OBE
Mike Brace is one of the country’s leading visually impaired sportsmen. He has played over 50 different sports and competed in two London Marathons, two ski marathons and a canoe marathon of 125 miles. As a cross country skier he has represented Great Britain in six paralympics and three world championships. He was part of the Metro team that won the British Blind Sport Cricket Knock out Final at Lord’s in 2004.

As an administrator Mike has managed the British athletics and winter paralympic teams for the first VI world cup. In 2001 he became Chairman of the British Paralympic Association. He is a trustee of the Primary Club.
