The Primary Club is a cricketing charity that
raises money to provide sports and recreational
facilities for blind and partially sighted people.
Juniors, launched in 2006, is a special branch of
the Club exclusively for under 18 year olds.
How do we raise money?
Members are really important in raising
funds. People who become members pay a
one-off membership fee that goes directly
towards the work of the Club. They also get
involved in all sorts of fundraising activities
from marathons to special cricket matches
and some make regular donations to the Club.
There are now more than 9,500 members
who have donated over £2 million since
the Club was formed in 1955.
And members can buy all kinds of
Primary Club merchandise through the
website – profits from these sales also go
directly towards the charity.
What does sport mean to blind people?
Sport is really important for blind and partially
sighted people. Playing sport and keeping
active helps them stay healthy, have fun and
build their confidence. This means they are
better able to tackle the problems facing them
in their everyday lives. It can be difficult for
blind people to play sport - the Primary Club
helps by funding special equipment.
